Dark Water Rising performance
November 8, 2012 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pmFree
Dark Water Rising, who received a Native American Music Award for “Debut Duo or Group of the Year” in 2010, will perform on Nov. 8, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus.
The concert is free to the public and will be held at the Graduate Student Center, located at 211A W. Cameron Ave. The event is a part of the University’s observance of American Indian Heritage Month. Concert sponsors are First Nations Graduate Circle (FNGC), The Graduate School, the American Indian Center and the Performing Arts Special Activities Fund.
FNGC co-president Brooke Bauer (Catawba Nation) said the goals of the event are “to shatter stereotypes about American Indians by placing contemporary Native American music in the public eye, provide undergraduate and graduate students with a formal meeting with Dark Water Rising (who are also UNC alumni) that will allow them to ask band members about their career, and promote a campus-wide dialogue on the complexities of indigenous musicians who successfully navigate the mainstream American music industry.”
